Knowledge Management Process For Quality

Quality Managers need to preserve the intellectual assets of their organization, continually identify best practices and develop ideas and expertise to improve their processes. This presentation developed the types of knowledge transfer (e.g. serial, experts, near, far and strategic) and the interpersonal methods that managers should be using for each of those types. This is not about the database but about how to set up strategies that effectively and efficiently capitalize on the way individuals and organizations naturally shape experience to maximize preserving and growing organizational knowledge and application of that knowledge to improve performance. This was an interactive session, wherein participants had the opportunity to apply the material to their organizational situation and develop draft strategies.

Planning Using Lean Tools

This is a hands-on, hign level walkthrough session of how to utilize Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools at the organizational level. The discussion takes the participants through a DMAIC process where they Define their key objectives via the simplified use of strategic planning/goal setting matrix. They then identify what their key Measures will be and will draft samples pertinent to their business settings. During this session participants will review LSS analysis tools that have been successfully applied across a variety of industry and service sectors. The course then discusses the act of improvement to enable the achievement of their defined objectives. Lastly, the concept of control will be reviewed to show participants some methods of how to review and ensure that executed improvements achieve and/or hold the gains that were made.

Next Generation of Performance Management

JD Sicilia, a member of the Senior Executive Service, was appointed as Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Program office on September 30, 2007. The LSS Office is tasked to oversee and direct the largest deployment of Lean Six Sigma ever attempted; drive DoD-wide LSS activities; rigorously track results; provide training; assist the Department in establishing and growing its program; and ensure the Office captures the best business practices Enterprise-wide. Prior to joining the Office of the Secretary of Defense staff, Mr. Sicilia served as the LSS Deployment Leader for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Prior to joining the DIA, Mr. Sicilia served in the United Stated Army. He retired from active duty as Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years of service. Mr. Sicilia earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University.
